Losing sight is one of the most terrifying and heartbreaking experiences imaginable, especially for those who have spent their lives visually experiencing the world. To go from witnessing the beauty of sunsets, the faces of loved ones, and the vibrant colours of life to sudden darkness can feel overwhelmingly isolating and deeply emotional.

Kampung Attap, situated in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is a culturally vibrant and historically significant urban neighbourhood. It is a hub for cultural activities, strategically located near iconic landmarks like the former Istana Negara, Stadium Merdeka, and the KL Sentral transportation hub. The area is renowned for hosting events such as the Peszta festival, which celebrates Malaysia's independence and diversity through art and music, making it a thriving cultural destination.

South Dakota School for the Blind & Visually Impaired was formed in 1900 originally in Gary, South Dakota, in a former Courthouse. Then in 1961, the foundation relocated to Aberdeen, South Dakota, with newly constructed single story building. Finally in 2020, with the partnership to Northern State University, SDSBVI was settled in this present building, designed by TSP architects, with the consultation from Chris Downey, an architect who also suffers vision loss.

This project is a Training Center for the Visually Impaired, located on Lots 70 to 74 along Jalan Kampung Attap in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The site covers a total land area of 704.55 square meters. While the center accommodates a variety of programs and activities, I have chosen handicraft training as the core focus of this facility.
